The Duo

CLINGING - THE PAST

Life has been so empty that I dont know where to turn
Sometimes I wake in the night with the echo of you and it hurts

I cant move on when no-one comes close to loving me
I ache for you but i know it cant ever be

Where are you now
what are you like
do you ever think of me
who's in your bed
who fills your head
do i ever exist in your dreams
i dont want to go back to the destruction and the abuse
but its hard to just forget what was me and you

I've been with other guys since you said it's over
Sometimes I go days without you looking over my shoulder

and I think of you as all my friend are falling in love
I should have seen the warning signs coz i never thought it would be so tough.

Where are you now
what are you like
do you ever think of me
who's in your bed
who fills your head
do i ever exist in your dreams
i dont want to go back to the destruction and the abuse
but its hard to just forget what was me and you

STUCK - THE PRESENT

When we met I felt like
all my dreams had come to life
I felt a quiet inside of me
and in your arms I felt free

Then you go and mess it up
You tell me your still in love

Why do you cling to her when she doesnt want you
Why do you still need her when its over between you two
I know you felt something with me
Your being stupid if you refuse to see

You told me you'd never been
so at ease with anyone but me
It seemed like I'd known you for years
We could talk about dreams and talk about fears

They I feel you pull away
You stopped talking to me that day

Why do you cling to her when she doesnt want you
Why do you still need her when its over between you two
I know you felt something with me
Your being stupid if you refuse to see

A Fairytale

You dream so big we stand in awe

Through your eyes we glimpse an invisible door

You show us mountains and oceans so blue

Across a sky shimmering in every hue

We see mermaids play and elves dance

And witches cast spells, they leave nothing to chance

In underground caverns of dark and ice

Monsters lurk and surface only to fight

A time of kings in battle, their speeches profound

Sitting in castles wrapped in cloaks of down

When Princes were absent and fair maidens cursed

and stepmothers were evil and plot only to hurt

When animals talk and birds sing tunes

And trees converse and even move

When the wicked were wicked, heroes were born

A time when words were simple and lines were drawn

You gave me wings and let me fly

You showed me magic and opened my eyes

I was read a story, in your words I was free

And it was as real as you or me.

Hide

I'm happy your here, in the dark with me
Though you dont speak it brings me peace

Where have you been all my life?
but I know it just wasn't the time

What would i have given
at the beginning
instead of missing you
what would i have forsaken
to stop it breaking
to be taken with you
My tears bring you to life
My memories won't ever die.

When I'm troubled I feel your hand on mine
And when Im lost I follow your guiding light

Why did you leave when we had our whole lives?
I know your there so why do you have to hide?

What would i have given
at the beginning
instead of missing you
what would i have forsaken
to stop it breaking
to be taken with you
My tears bring you to life
My memories won't ever die.

Small Town

Empty out my pockets I’ve got a few receipts today

Hang up my jacket I’m not going out again

Nothing’s changed in the town I was born

Just a few cracks and threads that have torn

Walk the same street, up the road to the shop

Pass the same people, with the same old small talk

‘How you doing’ like I really care

I don’t know you but here everythings shared

I’ve got one foot in front of me I cant look behind I am ready to run when the wind takes me

I’ve got one eye across the road, I have planned my exit, I have mapped my route, I am ready to leave

To leave this small town

Bought a one-way ticket, to the worlds other side

But it didn’t work out, its like I’ve gone back in time

Same people, with their same ideals

They think they know it all, they think they’re bubbles real

I’ve got one foot in front of me I cant look behind I am ready to run when the wind takes me

I’ve got one eye across the road, I have planned my exit, I have mapped my route, I am ready to leave

To leave this small town

Loser

You sit with your friends, you talk about drugs and stuff, that I know nothing about.

Talk about the time, high on P, they make it sound like it was pure ecstasy.

And I don’t get what binds you to them

You seem so alive and they seem stuck like its an effort to get out of bed

Underneath your smile, is that who you are

Just another loser, trying to take me home from the bar

Should I say no because I don’t like your friends

I can tell that this is something I’ll regret.

You sound so rough, your tattoo’s are tough, you look like you don’t smile much

But underneath the scary shell, is a heart of gold that has cast a spell

And I don’t get what binds you to your friends

They seem so different and I feel mean for not liking them

Underneath your smile, is that who you are

Just another loser, trying to take me home from the bar

Should I say no because I don’t like your friends

I’m afraid that this will be something I will regret.

Two Paths

We stood at the airport
and you were crying
You said you knew we were over
but I kept trying.

It was a dawning day
I refused to admit we'd changed
I remember you saying we'd work it out
but one month down and all we did was shout

You sent me emails and you sent me letters
You were kidding youself things would get better
You read my texts and you called me back
But the problem was you, you didnt understand
We're two diferent people on two different paths
And they've lead us away and they'll never lead us back.

You thought about money
you thought about your new job
And all the new faces
all the things I held you back from

It was a dark, cloudy night
when you phoned we did fight
You said I dont love you anymore
I said you lie but you were so sure

I sent you emails I sent you letters
I was kidding myself it'd get better
You deleted my texts and you didnt call back
the problem was me I just didnt understand
We're two diferent people on two different paths
And they've lead us away and they'll never lead us back

Its been one year
my mind is free
i dont stalk your facebook
i dont ring you constantly

and on this cold, winter day
i find it hard to picture your face
i said id always love you
the funny thing is that is true

i dont talk to you or try
i live my own life and i can get by
i dont delete the texts i get
but they're never from you and im not upset.
We're two diferent people on two different paths
And they've lead us away and they'll never lead us back

Losing Language

Today I think I shall begin with the simple task of saying hello, to formally introduce myself to you, the reader. And now for the topic comment of my spiel: It has come to my attention that most certainly we live in a digital age, and one where technology lords over us all. Human contact is regulated behind the unwavering screens of our computers, our mp3’s and our televisions, and monitored unscrupulously thanks to instant updates via Facebook and Twitter. We blog of our trials and tribulations, and chatter meaninglessly all day, every day, online, through text, by Skype, on MSN – an overload of chatter and regurgitated words. Our pace is quickened by the early morning starts and the maniacal rush to work/school, where we slave all day/night until we come home, heat up leftovers or stuff our faces with MSG and synthetic compounds. We live for the weekends, which pass by in a blur, either asleep, online, drunk, drugged or stressed. Where is the downtime? Where is the ME time? Is this hectic mess really life? Which is another point entirely and not the focus of this discussion.

Instead I am mulling over the concept of speech. Why do we say what we say, in the way that we say it, at the time that we do? It is common to speak without realising and to immediately regret what has been said, or more disastrously to mean it via a Freudian Slip. In fact we talk so much I wonder at what we actually say! In a typical sentence we hear bad grammar and a majority of slang with much meaning attached to the pitch, volume and tone of our voices. Speech has evolved so quickly that just speaking to someone a few years younger results in almost complete disbelief at one’s speaking habits! It begs the question: is the English language being taught in our schools at all these days??? Internet slang dominates conversations, and it is not uncommon for children to spend more time chatting online than in person. Is this the natural evolution of language? Technology plays a vital role in the direction it is turning.

I shudder at the thought of society in a hundred years time – mere biological robots living to work and experiencing life through the battery operated windows of Apple (for Apple is surely taking over the world!). Conversations reduced to idle chatter, meaning nothing and at the same time, meaning everything. For if we lose the connection to our words, what else are we losing connection to? Is the ability to create and bond person to person built upon the blocks of language? The language of voice, signs, touch and looks? If we continue down this path to a digital Wonderland, who will lead us out? You? Me? Ha. I am writing this on a computer, submitting it online and awaiting payment thanks to Internet Banking. We are well and truly on our way to change. Only time will tell.

What Do You Offer Me?

I should have seen the warning signs

Your ex warned me to open my eyes

You gotta problem with everyone

It don’t make sense for them all to be wrong

I should have listened to what you said

Guess I was distracted by the smoke in my head

When you said issues the bells shoulda rung

But I was busy thinking a great thing had begun

So I will spell it out …

You live at home, your never alone

You don’t have a job just smoke endless pot

And the world is out to get you

But its really just gonna forget you

You sit in your chair pretend you don’t care

Playing RPG’s you don’t wanna believe

That you like the life you lead

Just admit that your happy

So why pretend that you want your problems to end?

Your pretty lucky with what you got

I don’t get why you need the pot

Or the alcohol or the dramas

I know your not yet over your father

But at the end of the day your alive

Take responsibility for your life

Save money instead of blowing it all

On maccas then moaning your too poor

Or I will spell it out …
